For outstanding off-axis rejection of sounds across the frequency spectrum, the laminated Varimotion diaphragm has a frequency-independent supercardioid polar pattern. This enables for a high gain-before-feedback setting while also reducing stage bleed through the mic. The dual-shock capsule mount reduces handling noise, while the inbuilt pop filter reduces plosives and wind noise.

The frequency response spans 70 Hz to 20 kHz, with a maximum SPL of 147 dB at 1% THD, ensuring accurate reproduction of anything from strong vocals to snappy snares. The D5 boasts a rugged die-cast casing and a spring-steel wire mesh and comes with a stand adapter and a storage bag.
